Georgia SB475 Update: Enforcement Has Begun

Nov. 27, 2002 - The Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA) is prosecuting its first business under the requirement that businesses must securely dispose of personal confidential information. CRB, a medical collection agency, has been fined $5,000 and required to adopt appropriate policies and procedures. OCA discovered boxes of discarded records contained names, addresses, phone numbers and social security numbers as well as medical procedures in a dumpster behind the business in Sandy Springs.
